OR01 - This presentation provides the audience with an overview of the facilities management benchmarking process. Benchmarking allows FMs to compare analyze and improve their buildings' performance by reducing their operating costs saving energy and reducing their carbon footprint. The audience will learn how to integrate best practices with benchmarking metrics resulting in an action plan to improve building performance.

BR14 - The roles of the General Contractor and Construction Manager is ever expanding and changing. Cleveland’s Euclid Avenue is in the midst of a dramatic renaissance, credited in large part to the completion of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s HealthLine Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.  This innovative project has changed the appearance and function of Euclid Avenue and is pumping new life into the neighborhoods it traverses, producing positive effects across the economic, social, and environmental spectrum.  Attend this session to learn about the project and its impacts from project and neighborhood representatives.

This presentation discusses the Energy Efficient Commercial Building Deduction as well as other tax planning ideas for Green buildings.

OR14 - While structural materials are typically locally sourced and may contain high recycled content there are many other aspects to consider when designing the structural system for a sustainable project. In this session three structural engineers who are both passionate and well-informed about sustainability issues will discuss how design decisions regarding a building's hidden skeleton can either aid or impede a project's sustainability goals.

BR06 - Where does landscaping end and habitat begin? Often the boundaries are all too clear. The integration of ecological function into site and structure results in spaces that efficiently utilize ecosystem service to enhance habitat infrastructure and user experience. This session illustrates the techniques used to incorporate these ecological principles into practice, introduces Rehabitation by Design, and discusses how bioretention garden installations can be used as ornamental landscape amenities.

History, Updates, and strategies of the program.

In the sea of claims about being green and sustainable in the building market, it can be difficult to communicate your competitive advantage.  With great scrutiny over green washing and confusion in the market place over terminology, certifications and standards, a clear message and strategy need to be presented in order to gain market advantage.  This presentation will highlight how can you bring legitimacy and validation through marketing and public relations strategies and avoid being “washed in green.”

BL11 - The District of Columbia government is a unique position providing city county and state functions to implement comprehensive green building and development legislation in the Nation's Capital. Representatives from the Office of Property Management Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs and Department of the Environment will discuss initiatives currently underway to support successful implementation of the DC Green Building Act.

BR15 - Mixed-mode (MM) is a hybrid conditioning approach combining natural ventilation from operable windows and mechanical systems for cooling. The 3 speakers will offer perspectives from both research and practice: 1) simulations of MM comfort and energy performance across diverse climate zones 2) studies of how to optimize multivariate control strategies for MM and 3) case studies of the integration of MM and net zero energy buildings.
